Dunk It or Dump It? Chocolate and Hot Dogs

It’s my favorite post of the week. The time when I get to hear the opinions of my fellow foodies. The day I like to call Would-You-Eat-It-Wednesday?

Each week we assess an unusual, and sometimes weird, chocolate combination. This week we’re veering on the weird side of the spectrum.

Hot Dogs!

No, that wasn’t a typo. We’re talking about chocolate and hot dogs! Here is where the inspiration for this pairing came from. (Truly, I don’t make this stuff up.)

This restaurant hot dog, rooted in Massachusetts, is topped with hot fudge, marshmallow creme, and melted peanut butter.

Chocolate Hot Dog Éclair

This hot dog, a Canadian fair offering, is served on a Chocolate Eclair, and topped with whipped cream.

I have a feeling this one might be a hard sell. But, with chocolate covered bacon trending these days, perhaps there’s an audience for it? I’ll let you be the judge.

What’s the verdict, should Hot Dogs be paired with chocolate?

  1. I would definitely try this. I think the hot dog might be good as long as there is no other condiment on it such as ketchup or mustard although honey mustard might not be bad with the chocolate. The eclair with hot dog might be good too. I like beef hot dogs though..not meat.

  2. I rarely eat hot dogs because I think they’re kind of gross. I will eat a quality all-beef frank. Since I enjoy chocolate so much, I would consider dipping my all-beef frank in chocolate to experiment. I’ll try (almost) anything before I say absolutely not.
So this time, I say “Dunk it.”

  3. It’s the frankfurter that puts me off. A good pork sausage might go well with milk or dark chocolate and cream cheese. What about a lamb sausage with coffee flavoured chocolate or a chicken sausage with white chocolate? I love your dunk it or dump it ideas – they are real food for thought πŸ™‚
